I was just trying to do some drive clean-up on my WHS server and noticed over 700 MB in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MediaMall directory.

I was hoping to find out what files are needed there, if any.
I have submitted some support issues in the past and assume that they are created\saved in the above directory.

So what files need to be here? Please let me know, and what is the proper way to clear them out (-stop the service.. etc..) if needed.

That folder is used as a temporary scratch space to handle things like video processing and diagnostic data, among other things. It should be automatically cleared out of unnecessary temporary files and folders periodically while the server is running, and also at server restart. This is why we require at least 4 GB of extra HDD space on the Windows partition. We're working on making that location configurable (for people who'd rather have this temporary space allocated on a different partition).

There were several zipped log files from the beginning of September sitting there.
I did recognize a couple of trancoding files or something.. one was over 500 MB... and dated a few days ago.
I have my server setup to reboot nightly so there are files there that are getting missed or ignored... I am guessing the log files were from failed support-request sends that I experienced...

I manually deleted any files that were old.
The only ones I left are the last couple dated server logs (I am assuming the file name is a data stamp) the current log (server.log) and the install log and a user.dat file dated sept 18th and did nothing with the sub-directory...

So, no old files need to be in this directory? Keep the last weeks worth (modified dates)? Keep the log files? What do you recommend if I find the folder growing in size again?

I ask because WHS only allows for a 20 GB SYS partition and I saw it was recommend to use UNC path names if wanting to use the "storage" drives. I found that temp files (internet and other) were filling up the drive... Cleared out 15 GB worth as part of the folder by folder clean-up...

The .log files shouldn't take up too much space, maybe a couple of megs at the most each, and there should usually only be 3 or 4 of them. If there are any .zip or .mmz files, you can safely delete them. They shouldn't be there, and may be from an earlier version of PlayOn that wasn't as good about deleting diagnostics files for support requests. Please keep an eye on it to see if this problem persists.

Generally, if any of the files grow too much, just let us know by sending a support mail (posting on the forum is definitely not the best way to reach our support staff).

That is the information I was looking for. I was not in any rush and thought this might be helpful to the public as well.

If I notice the folder getting unruley again I will submit a support request with the details.

Does the transcoding or internet access use the Temporary Internet files location on the PlayOn server too? Just wondering what other locations on the system I might want to keep watch.

You can also use a windows junction to relocate the files to whatever drive you want. A junction makes a folder into a pointer to a folder in another location.
